NEW YEAR'S DAY FOOTBALL
SIX days after beating promotion rivals Maidenhead United 2-0 at Church Road, Hayes & Yeading United went down by the same score in the away fixture at York Road.
The Boxing Day win had been H&Y's first for six Conference South games and they could so easily have made it two in a row had they taken their early chances.
Gary MacDonald and Tom Cad-more were denied in the opening seconds, James Mulley hit the inside of the post and Omari Coleman could not quite finish off another chance, but after that opening half hour the visitors began to drop off the pace.
Maidenhead created a few opportunities of their own before half-time and after Mulley blazed a shot over for H&Y, the Magpies took a 63rd minute lead when an offside-looking Mustafa Tyriaki escaped on the left and unleashed a shot that came back off the post and Richard Pacquette was on hand to convert the rebound.
Just as H&Y had done in the first clash, Maidenhead added a second goal two minutes later when a mixup between Aaron Howe and MacDonald presented Pacquette with an easy finish.
Inconsistent Uxbridge conceded a goal in each half to start the year with a 2-0 loss at home to Windsor & Eton, who went top of Southern League Division One South and West as a result.
The Reds had their chances but Andrew Fagan headed the Royalists into a 27th minute lead and midway through the second period Michael Chennels rounded Paul McCarthy to wrap up the win.
Two goals in the last five minutes away to Bracknell Town made it four games without a win for AFC Hayes as their recent revival stuttered.
Leon Solomon broke the deadlock and Nathan Jack added a penalty to leave Joe Mitchell's side with a 2-0 defeat and only one point from 12.
