Luke Norris insists it was a 'no brainer' to leave Brentford, but admits he had four good years at the club – and plenty to be thankful for.

Norris joined Gillingham on a two-year deal earlier this month, with the compensation figure set to be decided by tribunal after the two clubs failed to agree a figure.

The 21 year old striker made four first team appearances for the Bees after signing from Hitchin Town in 2010, and looked to have forced his way into contention after turning out against Derby, AFC Wimbledon and Stevenage early last season.

Following successful loan spells at Northampton and Dagenham & Redbridge, scoring four goals at each, the future looked bright for Norris.

But Brentford's promotion to the Championship pushed him further down the Griffin Park pecking order, and he jumped at the chance when the Gills came calling.

He said: “I had already been told I would just be going out on loan again, so it was a no brainer really. Moving gave me security and the chance to play first team football.

“It was best for my career. I think I did well when I did get a chance in the first team, and after four years it was just time for me to move on.

“They offered me a deal knowing I would move on, but I have lot to be thankful to Brentford for as they took a risk on me at 16 and gave me a chance.

“The club are going places and will do well in the future. I loved my time there and wish them all the best.”

Norris also scored three goals in seven games in a successful loan spell two years ago at Borehamwood, who Brentford play tonight in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer.
