David Stockdale admits he has slept badly since Fulham's relegation was confirmed – but says the players have to all take responsibility for the failure.

In his programme notes ahead of the last day of the season, chairman Shahid Khan apologised to the fans for the club 'falling short' and Stockdale says there is no hiding from the collective culpability.

“The truth hurts. You cannot get away from it,” said the Whites' keeper.

“You got relegated and you have got to deal with it. If you can look yourself in the mirror and say to yourself you gave 100 per cent then you will go to bed nice and easy. But, I tell you what, I didn’t go to bed nice and easy this week.

“We cannot shift blame onto anyone else. We need to stand up. We are big enough people and we get paid a lot of money to do the job we are doing so why shouldn’t we take the responsibility on our shoulders?”

Stockdale added: “It hurts because this is the club I love and the club that gave me a chance.

"I am an honest person and I always think what I could have done better.

“I go through every one of my games. I am not saying everyone else should do that, but if we can all look back at things that we maybe did wrong…no one is perfect.

“No one is perfect every game, but it is about looking back and improving. It is about showing giving back and showing that you care.”
