Dean Inman admits it was a little strange to find himself in the away dressing room at Farnborough on Saturday but left Cherrywood Road on top of the world after Hayes & Yeading’s last-gasp winner.

Jack Mills smashed in an injury-time penalty to snatch three points from Boro’s grasp after after United midfielder Louie Soares had cancelled out Josh Huggins’ early opener for the home side.

Inman could have got on the scoresheet himself, seeing a header crash against the crossbar and several other near misses, however it didn’t matter in the end as the former Farnborough player was just delighted to come away with the win.

“We were poor in the first-half and we knew we weren’t at our best,” he said.

“At half-time, the gaffer told us we had to step it up. In the second-half we got at them more and really got in their faces.

“Once we got the first goal there was only going to be one winner. Mikhael [Jaimez-Ruiz]  made a couple of good saves but apart from that we were pretty solid.”

Return: Dean Inman came back to haunt Farnborough on Saturday

Inman spent three months on loan with Spencer Day’s Boro last season before Hampton & Richmond sold him to United boss Phil Babb for an undisclosed fee this summer.

Much of last season’s Boro squad remains intact and the new Hayes & Yeading captain says it was nice to see his old pals at the weekend.

“Most of the faces I remembered from last year,” added Inman.

“There was only two or three in their starting line-up that weren't here when I was here. It was a bit weird coming back, but it was good.

“As much as you kind of feel sorry for your mates for losing, that’s football and I couldn’t be any happier to get the three points. It was great to win in that last-minute fashion too.”
