Division One North Great Wakering Rovers 0 Hillingdon Borough 0

HILLINGDON Borough earned themselves a stay of execution with a battling draw away to mid-table Great Wakering Rovers.

Boro went into the game knowing they could be relegated by the end of it and they responded with a fighting display that was rewarded with only their third clean sheet of the season.

The goalless draw meant they are still 21 points from safety with only 21 available - and leaders Aveley come to the Middlesex Stadium on Saturday.

Rovers took advantage of the breeze and slight slope to impose themselves in the first half last Saturday and they edged possession yet chances were few and far between and evenly shared between the sides.

The hosts' best efforts came when Tom Poole had a header tipped over by Ben Harris and Jack O'Connor screamed a shot over the bar, while Reece Chaudry, Lucas Williams and Stephen Midega all had half chances for Boro which led to nothing.

The second half proved to be much the same as the Hillingdon defence remained strong as Great Wakering looked for a winner, although the visitors could have snatched all three points had they had a little more luck.

Shaun Grant had a fierce shot blocked, Chaudry had another charged down and saw a glancing header go just wide, while Midega scraped the top of the bar with a rasping effort.
