Chelsea's Eden Hazard set up the goal which got Belgium's World Cup campaign off to a winning start last night.

The Belgians, tipped as dark horses for the tournament, looked anything but potential winners to start with against Algeria, falling behind to a penalty which keeper Thibaut Courtois, another of Chelsea's Belgian contingent, had no chance of saving.

But after Marouane Fellaini equalised with 20 minutes remaining, Hazard sped down the left wing 10 minutes later before crossing for Dries Mertens to smash home the winner.

Booked: Ramires is yellow carded in a night to forget for Brazil

Belgium started with another of their Chelsea aces, Romelu Lukaku, up front, but the striker had an uncharacteristically quiet night and was subbed just before the hour mark.

It was an unhappy night, though, for Chelsea's Brazilian pack, with the hosts and tournament favourites held to a very un-Brazilian goalless draw against Mexico which won't have had their rivals quacking in their boots.

David Luiz managed the full frustrating 90 minutes, while Ramires was subbed at half time after picking up a booking, and Oscar was replaced by Chelsea team-mate Willian in the closing stages.
