Brentford FC winger Marvin Williams has praised boss Andy Scott for giving him compassionate leave for the birth of his son.

Former Bees boss Martin Allen once fell out with his boss at QPR, Trevor Francis, after being refused time off to be at his son's birth.

But there were no such problems for Williams, whose partner gave birth to a boy, Cameron, last Wednesday.

He returned to training yesterday and will be in contention for Saturday's visit of Macclesfield.

Williams said: "The gaffer and Terry Bullivant were brilliant. They told me to take as long as I wanted and call them when I was ready.

"Those are the things which you respond to as a player, when you know your manager is looking out for you away from the pitch too.

"I wasn't in the right frame of mind for Chesterfield as there were some complications with the labour, but I'm ready for Macclesfield."
