Ola Williams is happy to be back in the warm embrace of the Harrow Borough fans, having endured a rough ride away from Earlsmead this season.

Williams was a mainstay of Dave Anderson’s defence last season and made 42 appearances in the red shirt at full-back.

His form attracted the attention of other clubs and he has turned out for both Wingate & Finchley and Grays Athletic at times this term.

A disagreement with the management at the latter saw him leave Mill Field, however it was the hostile reaction of the crowd at Wingate that has left a real mark on Williams.

His welcome at Harry Abrahams Stadium was far from an inviting one and the defender admitted he did wonder if he would get the same hot reception upon his return to the Reds.

“I’m happy they are happy to have me back here because when I was at Wingate every time I got the ball they started booing me.

“So that was a bit of a worry when I came back as I thought they were going to boo me, but I am happy they are on my side now and they are supporting me – that’s great.”

Williams continued to keep Danny Dyer, who has been a regular this season, on the bench on Saturday as Marc Charles-Smith struck a second-half brace to rescue a point in a 2-2 with Grays.

"You know what, it was not really a game for football,” added Williams.

“The pitch was bobbly, we were not able to pass the ball properly and first touch was just all over the place really, so it was basically just hoof-ball all day.

“We adapted to that and we did well.

"I don’t think we were at the races in the first-half. The gaffer pulled us in and he has given us a good talking to and let certain players know where they stand and what they needed to do in the second half.

“We came out in the second-half and we just stuck to what the gaffer said and got something out the game.”

"Harrow Borough’s point against Grays took them just one shy of the magical 50 and they can reach that milestone by avoiding defeat on Saturday at home to AFC Hornchurch.

Meanwhile, Harrow’s tenants Hendon went down to a last minute goal as they were beaten 4-3 by Hampton & Richmond Borough on Monday night, having fought back from 2-0 down at half-time.

They even led 3-2 at one stage but a double from Anthony Thomas and one from Michael Murray proved not to be enough.

That came just two days after the Greens had beat AFC Hornchurch with Tony Taggart and Leon Smith on target.
