Bedfont Green legend Doug White hung up his boots on Saturday after 36 years playing for the club.

Having first turned out for the side as a young whip-per-snapper of 14, he bowed out in his 50th year with a match against Woking & Horsell in the Woking Alliance Division Four South.

While White bows out of playing, he is still chairman of a club whose first team now play in the Combined Counties League Premier.

He fittingly came off in the 50th minute of Green's C team's 2-0 win on Saturday having enjoyed a guard of honour from both teams and his pet dog, Louie, before kick-off.

He then went to join family members and friends at the 300-strong crowd at Yeading FC.

White said: "I would like to sincerely thank everybody that contributed to this memorable day, particularly those that obviously spent so much time bringing together all the past and present people that I have been close to in football.

"As chairman of the club, I have new goals in line with our ambitions, and retiring will release more time to see these through.

"I will miss the playing side very much, particularly the banter in the changing rooms, but the club moves on - and the C Team now needs to find a quality two-footed replacement striker!"
