Ridgeway Rovers is a storied youth football club that has brought through some of the great players of the modern game.

David Beckham, Dwight Gayle, Charlie Daniels, Andros Townsend and Harry Kane have come through at Rovers as did Brentford midfielder Nico Yennaris.

“It’s an east London team,” Yennaris said. "David Beckham was there. Harry Kane was there. Jordan Archer was there. A lot of boys have come from there.”

And it was at Ridgeway where he caught the attention of the Arsenal scouts in 2001.

“I was playing with my Sunday League team in a tournament. I think we won it and I got scouted there,” the Brentford midfielder explained.

“At my age, we had a lot of the boys at academies. Some aren’t in the game anymore. But look at Harry Kane and Jordan Archer.

“They’ve made a career for themselves. That team (I was in) was a very good team at the time.”
