Deserved result for AFC Wimbledon as they crashed out of the FA Cup? Not necessarily.

Unlucky Dons

The result was hard on Neal Ardley's men, who showed passion and fight as they aimed to take the club through to the fourth round for the first time.

Following the highs of their promotion to League One, the disappointing result against the National League side will sting Ardley and Dons, who switched off at crucial moments.

They were the better side throughout despite the defeat.

Contentious refereeing decisions

The referee failed to give Wimbledon benefit of the doubt on several occasions following Sutton's heavy tackles to Taylor and Parrett, and had suitable punishments been dispensed - it might have been a different story.

Yellow peril: Roarie Deacon of Sutton United (R) celebrates scoring his side's first goal

Good AFC defence finally buckled

OK, it ended 3-1.

But Dons defence looked ready to deflect any challenge coming their way up to 75 minutes with 10 men.

Barry Fuller and Chris Robertson in particular used their nous and experience. It's just a shame they couldn't hold on for the final 15.

It ended in misery for AFC WImbledon as they not only lost a mouth-watering tie to Leeds - but defender Paul Robinson to a straight red.

Referee Chris Sarginson played a pivotal part when he sent off the Dons man on 15 minutes, and then earned the wrath of home supporters when Dean Parrett and Lyle Taylor both suffered heavy tackles that failed to get the punishment bayed for.

Tom Elliott's goal had the Dons leading after nine minutes but Roarie Deacon's equaliser halted Wimbledon's march before Maxime Biamou and Dan Fitchett secured a Sutton victory.

Top start: Tom Elliott scores

Dons were down to 10 after Elliott's opener as Robinson was sent off for a foul on Sutton United forward Matt Tubbs, who previously spent time on loan to the Dons.

The home side came under pressure from the opposition in the opening minutes, but Elliot's headed goal from a Parrett free kick after nine minutes tipped the balance in the Dons' favour.

Following Robinson's dismissal, Neal Ardley made an early substitution, taking Dom Poleon off for Chris Robertson to sure up the defence.

A late equaliser from Deacon left Dons under pressure before Biamou and Fitchett sealed the deal for Sutton who instead, get the Leeds treatment next.
