Only maximum points will do from Chelsea’s two league games this week according to Kurt Zouma.

The Blues host two games in less than 72 hours with Tony Pulis’ West Brom the visitors on Wednesday night before Capital One Cup semi-finalists Everton hit west London on Saturday.

Rapid centre-half Zouma feels the New Year win at Crystal Palace closed the door on a disappointing start to the campaign.

But with the first two league games of Guus Hiddink’s interim spell in charge having ended in draws, the Lyon-born centre-back knows wins are now the order of the day, especially given home advantage.

“We hope the New Year is a new start,” he said. “We have played very well since the New Year began, so let’s keep it up and keep going.

“We play at home so that is good for us and these are big games we want to win as we need points.

“We cannot think about draw or lose as we only want wins.”

Even if six points should be gleaned, hopes of a top four finish remain remote given the yawning gap between themselves and the current occupiers of that berth, London rivals Tottenham.

With PSG to face in the last 16 of the Champions League, the FA Cup would appear the Blues’ best chance of silverware this season.

But in the wake of the 2-0 third round win over Scunthorpe, Zouma struck a note of caution, saying the lottery of tonight’s fourth round draw makes such assertions far from certain.

“It is important for us to win the FA Cup and it is a big target because everyone wants to be in Wembley,” he added

“But we can’t say it is our best chance of silverware before the draw. Let’s see who we get in the next stage.”
