Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes his side have fallen victim to misfortune after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Everton.

The Blues were far from their best at Goodison Park as a Steven Naismith hat-trick condemned Mourinho’s men to a third league defeat from five.

But the Chelsea boss was adamant that his side have deserved a far better points return from their performances this season.

“The results are going wrong, too wrong for our quality, for our stature and too wrong for what the players deserve,” he told BT Sport.

“The players deserve much better than what they are getting. I know that now is easy for everybody to criticise me and the players but I completely disagree.

He continued: “Let’s work the same way we are doing. Let’s wait for better days. Let’s wait for better results. I trust that they will do that.”

Chelsea have lost three of their first five Premier League matches, and have conceded 12 goals already.

And although they have only picked up one win, the Blues boss insists that his side are making minor errors which are proving lethal.

“The priority is to keep doing what we are doing. I cannot put more pressure on the players. The players are feeling enough sadness,” said the Portugese manager.

“I think it is very sad for a player to be on the pitch, to have control of the game, to feel that the game is under control, and with the first mistake we make, Naismith is alone in the middle of the box and scores a goal.

“I am the champion, the players are the champions. The way they are playing is not so bad as the result but in every game, everything goes against us - even today.

“I don’t accept the result and I am responsible for the team, so I’m not happy with the situation or myself but I am with the players. I cannot have a bad feeling with them.”
