Alan McCormack has apologised to Brentford fans for the team's display in their 4-0 walloping at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The defender admitted after the unremitting success of last season, being on the end of a drubbing like that is still something they are getting used to.

But he promised the Bees would bounce back with a bite when they host Leeds United at Griffin Park on Saturday.

He said: “All credit to Middlesbrough, they had a system which snuffed us out and they sunk our game plan, but it wasn't good enough from us.

“The warm up wasn't good enough and it continued into the game, and if you do that at this level you will get punished. They were better than us all over the pitch in every position.

“For the first half hour we had better possession and they were just counter attacking, but after they broke the deadlock they just went through us at ease.

“We all said afterwards that we we were embarrassed and disappointed. We've not been in a situation like this before, but you learn from every new situation.

“We apologise to the fans and move forward to our next game. It's big for us now, but the next game is always a big game, whether we're playing Accrington Stanley or Manchester United.”
