Wealdstone boss Gordon Bartlett is determined to put right the horror show against Bishop's Stortford when his side face Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.

The Hawks are sitting in sixth place in the table and are pushing for promotion to the Conference Premier.

And Bartlett knows if his side drop their standards like they did last weekend, they will be punished.

He said: “I think Havant are one of the best sides in the league. They've got a lot of experience and are geared to going into the Conference.

“It's going to be a very difficult game. If we apply ourselves we can get a result but if we play like we did Saturday, god help us.”

He added: “Don't think because we've got 42 points the season is over. We've got eight games to go and we're looking to get as many as possible.

“We want to try and get to 50 if we can. If we reach 50, we'll set another. Our home form has been a cause for concern.

“We've got a string of big games now, all of whom are in the play-off chasing places. We've got a tough period coming up.”

Stones were behind inside on Saturday six minutes when George Allen rose highest to power a poorly defended header into the top corner.

Stortford doubled the lead on 24 minutes, Jefferson Louis disastrously miscuing a clearance from a corner allowing Mikel Suarez to easily fire home from six yards.

Louis was the villain of that piece, but within a minute he was the home fans' hero again first winning and then scoring a penalty.

But, five minutes after the break, Michael Corcoran clumsily and inexplicably bundled over Ashley Miller and Suarez stroked home the penalty.

Bartlett said: “I couldn't explain it. We were just poor. We lacked energy and they had more desire than we did. I don't know whether we felt we'd done enough or what.

“I've now got to look at it. It could be a good kick up the backside. You can't drop your work ethic as everybody is capable of beating everybody else.

“Both fans and players looked at the fact we'd been on a great run. You haven't got a divine right to win matches. The whole place was flat on Saturday for some reason and they took full advantage.”
