Mark Warburton has warned his Brentford squad they are playing for their futures ahead of the final seven games of the Championship season.

The Bees boss will leave the club in the summer after disagreeing with owner Matthew Benham over long-term plans, notably with the manager losing his veto on signing new players.

With a new structure in place, it is likely that some players will be forced out of the club and Warburton has told his troops they must perform to impress his replacement, or other clubs looking for their services.

He said: “We had a blunt chat with staff and players because with any manager leaving is a period of uncertainty as the new man has his own ideas.

Warning: Mark Warburton

“Right now, our focus is this season. For the players, if they get promotion their stock is high.

“Even if they don't play here next year they should be able to secure themselves.

“If you're a staff member and you're not wanted, then your stock should be high enough. For David and I we want to win as many games as we can.

Warburton added: “We've got players who play in our system. We brought12 players in last summer. It happens.

“There will be new faces in the summer. They must give themselves the best chance to play as high as we can. The staff are the same. That's natural. You have to focus on what you can control.”
