The Longmead stadium was left in complete darkness after half time for just under 30 minutes during the 1-1 draw.
United were leading at the time through Luke Williams' 23rd minute strike and might have been further ahead had it not been for a string of fine saves from the Tonbridge's keeper..
But after play had resumed the hosts were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, which Mark Lovell despatched to level the score.
United are now three games unbeaten and the draw leaves them four points above the relegation zone with up to two matches in hand over the teams around them.
They are next in action on Tuesday when Sutton United are the visitors to Kingfield.
