Between 300-400 people turned out to witness Hanworth Villa host their first ever game under floodlights on Tuesday night.

And it was Matt Grave who netted the first floodlit goal at Rectory Meadow as Villa beat old rivals Staines Lammas 1-0.

It made for a perfect start to Villa's Combined Counties League Division One campaign following their opening day 4-2 win at Farnham Town on Saturday.

Grave was on the mark twice there too, while Benny Reed bagged a brace as well.

Boss Tony Buss said after the Lammas win: "It was great to see so many people there getting behind us, and we deserved to win, while we were excellent in the second half against Farnham."

Lack of floodlights was one of the reasons Villa were unable to be promoted to the Combined Counties Premier last season, despite finishing second in Division One.

But with all the ground requirements for promotion complete, if Villa can keep this sort of form up there'll be no stopping them come the end of the season.

However, they will be without Grave, Andy Vetesse and Mark Buss for Saturday's visit of Mole Valley SCR, as they are all at a wedding.

Buss added: "We have a big enough squad this time round that we have lads who can come in and do a decent job."

Also in Division One, Feltham and CB Hounslow United, who were due to play each other last night at Bedfont FC, had contrasting starts to the season.

Goals from D Putnam and A Bridgeman gave CB a 2-1 win over South Park, while Feltham went down 3-1 at Mole Valley SCR.

Feltham host Crescent Rovers on Saturday, while CB travel to Warlingham.
