Brentford's players have paid tribute to former team-mate Tony Craig ahead of his testimonial game for Millwall against the Bees.

The centre back spent three seasons at Griffin Park, joining from the Lions in 2012, and, in the absence of Kevin O'Connor, captained the side for long spells.

During his time at the club, Craig led the side to promotion from League One and won many friends for his determination.

He returned to boyhood club Millwall last summer and the south Londoners have granted him a testimonial for his long-service.

Brentford were quick to agree to play the fixture, to Craig's delight, and his former Griffin Park team-mates were effusive in their praise, although some couldn't resist some light-hearted ribbing of their former colleague.

Below is what they had to say about their former captain as well as head coach Dean Smith.

“I grew close to him and he did well for the club. It was a shame to see him go back to Millwall but he enjoys it there as he did well for us.

“It'll be good to see him again. I'm pleased he's been granted a testimonial. I'll see if he'll buy a drink – I doubt it but we'll see.

“He is a good lad and a true winner and a true leader. I'm buzzing that he's got a testimonial. We used to wind him up about Millwall but he's a Millwall fan. I'm pleased he's got a testimonial and it'll be a big day for him.”

Alan McCormack

“I can't wait to see TC. He's a great lad. I don't think I've met anyone that says a bad word about Tony.

“He wears his heart on his sleeve. 10 years at one club is a superb achievement. I think the club are delighted to go down.

“As long as he doesn't try and smash anybody we'll leave on good terms. It should be a great day.

“We're looking forward to celebrating his day. At the end of the day it's a friendly for his day and I hope to see him take a penalty and scuffs it or something we can give him banter for.

“He's a very tough opponent. He can have a penalty but he'll get a lot of stick when he goes up to take one.”

Harlee Dean

“I’ve got a lot of time for Tony – he’s a top man. It’s good to see him getting a testimonial from Millwall and it’s nice to be a part of it.

"We had a good relationship and a good partnership together – we got promoted from League One and we had a good balance. It was a pleasure playing alongside him”

“I think it's very special for him. To get awarded a testimonial means you've given a great service. It was a touch of class that he was here on Tuesday. He's donating proceeds to Headley Court that he went to see and visited.

“He's not played at the top level and I'm sure the funds would be welcome in his own house but that shows the good side of footballers. It's a credit to him.

“I was scouting many years ago for Hibernian and recommended Tony. He's a player I've admired. He's a really nice lad as well. I hope it's a good one for him.”
