Eden Hazard urged Jose Mourinho to try him in the No 10 role last month but now says he is happy to play wherever the Chelsea manager sees fit.

Last year’s PFA Player of the Year is yet to score for the Blues this term and has been fielded right across Mourinho’s frontline in an attempt to revive his fortunes.

He was thrust into a central striking role on Sunday as the champions were held to a goalless draw by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

It was another blank for the Belgian but the Special One was keen to praise the attacker for what he considered to be his best performance of the campaign so far.

Hazard had previously made no secret of his desire to play in the hole and revealed he held a heart-to-heart with his manager prior to a trip to the Britannia Stadium earlier this November.

But his future looks to be lying further away from the playmaker role and the man himself is now just focusing on getting his head down after working well with Oscar, Pedro and Willian at Spurs .

Hazard said: “There was a lot of movement with small passes between us. It was not always easy but we did a good job and tried to score. We enjoyed playing together.

“I have played on the left, on the right, recently in the number 10 role, and I just enjoy playing. I know to give my all wherever I am on the pitch.

“We try to take game after game and win game after game,’ he said. We won against Norwich, we drew here and we play a good game at home next week which we have to win.

“We want to finish in the top four and we know it’s difficult but we will try. We will continue to work hard and continue to take pleasure from our game.”

Mourinho picked out Deco, who he first worked with at Porto, and Wesley Sneijder, who starred under the Portuguese at Inter, as the two best examples of No 10s in his view.

He told reporters his feelings towards the role and those of Hazard differed in some respects.

Mourinho said: “Me and Eden have different concepts of number 10. For me a number 10 does a lot of things with and without the ball. So a number 10 is a very special player I my team.

“Wesley Sneijder and Deco are my perfect number 10’s. The complete number 10’s. Mesut Ozil was very good at Real Madrid as well. Sneijder could defend, get in the box and finish with goals. Can Eden be that man as a Number 10 ? I don’t think so.”
