Referee Steve Martin was the subject Dean Smith referred to on multiple occasions after Brentford conspired to throw two points away by letting a two goal lead slip in stoppage-time against QPR.

The Bees looked to have had the game won after Lasse Vibe produced two fine finishes in the second half after excellent work from Nico Yennaris for the first and Romaine Sawyers for the second.

However, they conspired to throw all three points away as, first, Matt Smith scored from a corner in the second of four added minutes.

And they never woke up from that as a Jake Bidwell free kick found Luke Freeman in space and he turned home to give QPR a point they scarcely deserved.

Below is the full Q&A with Smith in his post-match press conference with the written media.

It must be hard to take?

It's disappointing. I feel aggrieved as well. Ollie has been clearly fouled. The ball had been played into him at 2-0 with two minutes to go, he's fouled. The referee waves play on they get a short corner, Dan should probably do better and they get a goal. And then Romaine pulls out of a tackle and gets given a foul against him when he's not given the foul against Ollie Watkins. They put the ball in the box, we don't defend it well and they score another. I'm puzzled to be honest. We got involved in a scrappy game. I felt we had the better of the chances and at 2-0 we had chances of making it three or four nil. It was a scrappy game in the second half when they brought Smith on after we took the lead. They hit Smith and we struggled to deal with the second ball. But we started playing again and got a wonderfully worked second goal. The rest is as I just said.

How do you combat the amount of points given away from winning positions?

Tonight was down to the officials in my opinion. People talk about losing from winning positions but you need the officials to be having a good game as well.

Is there anything you can do?

We were 2-0 up and should have been 3-0 up. Their keeper has made really good saves. They've got big players and they got it in there and we didn't deal with it well enough.

Are you worried by Dan Bentley's form?

For him, he has to keep getting better. It's only his second season in the Championship and he's a very good goalkeeper. He should be walking away with a clean sheet today. The referee's whistle didn't go and we've drawn 2-2.

Will you speak to the official?

I will do. I'm very disappointed. I've not seen theirs back but they appealed for a penalty. From my initial reaction, I didn't think it was deliberate. The ball was in close proximity to thigh and hand. It has to be deliberate. They can feel aggrieved about that. The referee has to do better. It was a clear foul on Ollie Watkins in the middle of the pitch and, you tell me, was it a foul on Romaine when he pulled out of a challenge?

Is this as disappointed as you felt?

I felt more disappointed when I lost 3-0 here two years ago. It's part and parcel of the game and we should have walked away with three points tonight and we didn't. We have to take it on the chin. We'll mark the referee accordingly.

Ian Holloway appeared to criticise Brentford's attitude – you disagree?

He doesn't know my players. We're a footballing team. He can make as many accusations as he wants. I'm not going to get involved with his players.
