LENNOX PHILLIPS passed the 100-goal mark for the past two seasons on Sunday - and his goals could not have been more important.

His brace helped Gunnersbury-based Park Place Sports Club U13s land the League Cup with a 3-1 win over Ballers FC at Osterley Sports Club. Phillips, who has had trials with Watford, scored 50 goals last season and made it 52 for this campaign with his cup final double.

But it was Ballers who took an early lead which they held until half-time, although Park hit the post and bar. Their persistence paid off after the break when just a few minutes in, Abdel Ghallani, who has trialled with Charlton, played Phillips in for the equaliser.

Reese Jones, who scored 38 goals last season and has hit 36 this term from the right wing, crossed for Phillips, whose shot was parried by the Ballers keeper onto the head of one of his own defenders and in.

Phillips made the game safe with his second with 10 minutes left, thanks to some quick-thinking from Jay Grewal. The youngster dummied a throw-in to Jones, taking two defenders out of the game, and instead launched it 30 yards for Phillips to run on to and score.

Manager Jay Grewal said: "The lads were fantastic, and Ballers were very sporting too - giving us three cheers at the end and applauding us when we got the cup.

"I even did my Achilles tendon in running onto the pitch celebrating!"
