Hampton & Richmond FC's upgrade of their toilets didn't come a moment too soon when they learned about Cambridge City this week.

There was a case of Sir Alex Ferguson's 'squeaky bum' around the Beveree, when their Blue Square South rivals were kicked out of the league.

City were demoted a division after they lost their appeal on ground grading - a fate that could have overtaken Hampton had they not beaten the deadline by just one day last month.

Hampton improved the toilet facilities and the seating just in the nick of time.

Weston-super-Mare finished third from bottom and have been reprieved for the second season in a row as a result of Cambridge's demise.

The Blue Square South season gets under way on Saturday, August 9, but its composition is still subject to amendment at the annual meeting on Saturday.

There are decisions pending on which two from Redditch United, Worcester City, Kings Lynn and Boston United will be moved into the South division.

Meanwhile, even though it is still seven weeks until West Ham United visit Beveree for a pre-season friendly, work has already started in preparation.

Officials are planning for a crowd of 3,000 for the prestigious fixture on Thursday, July 17.

The club have already been in discussions with the emergency services and are making detailed plans to steward the game.

"Although we have a loyal band of volunteer stewards, we will have to buy in additional security as we are looking after a group of footballers worth millions of pounds," said press officer Les Rance.

Tickets will be available shortly, priced £15 for adults and £8 for concessions.

Just a couple of days later a Chelsea X1 will be the visitors on Saturday July 19. Hampton will not be selling tickets for that game, so it will be cash admissions on the day, again £15 and £8. However, any fan who produces a ticket from the West Ham game will only be charged £10 or £5.

The Beavers will not be selling advance tickets for the Swindon Town fixture (Jul 22) or Brentford (Jul 29). Admission prices for those games will revert to the usual £10 & £5.
