Wayne Tisson hopes he will have more joy choosing his successor at Bedfont & Feltham than Sir Alex Ferguson did at Manchester United.

Tisson has stepped down as manager at The Orchard after three years in the hot seat, after spells as reserves boss and assistant manager at Feltham before taking the main reins, and overseeing last year's merger with Bedfont.

He goes out on a high, having last month landed the Middlesex Premier Cup for the second year in a row, but will stay with the club and join their committee, helping choose the next manager.

Hopefully his choice will be more shrewd than Fergie's, who picked as his replacement at Old Trafford David Moyes, whose unhappy reign came to an end last week.

Tisson said: “I've really enjoyed my time here. I've been at the club five years in all and just felt it was time to take a rest. Winning the county cup for the second year also meant I could go out on a high. If it wasn't for a couple of blips, we could well have been celebrating promotion too.

“I still want to be part of the club though and will join the committee, hopefully helping choose a new manager and offering help to whoever comes in. Hopefully I will make a better fist of it than Fergie did!

“I would like to thanks my assistants, Dan Butler and Jon-Barrie Bates. Both would do a fine job as manager, but I don't think either want it as they cannot commit the time to it. It will probably be an outsider, and I know there is plenty of interest.

“Before I took over, the club had something like three managers in a year, so I'm proud to have helped get some stability as well as bring in some silverware.”

In order to keep their faint promotion hopes alive in Combined Counties One, Bedfont & Feltham had to win their last two games and hope Eversley & California slipped up.

Tisson's side kept their side of the bargain by beating Banstead Athletic 5-1 on Saturday, led by a Jahmal Ramsey hat-trick, but Eversley's win meant a top three place is now beyond the Yellows, who were due to see out their season at Epso Athletic last night.

Also in Division One, an Aston Ventour strike was not enough to prevent CB Hounslow United ending their season on a losing note 2-1 at Staines Lammas, but for a side rooted to the bottom for much of the season, finishing outside the relegation places was a fine achievement.
