Massimo Luongo has completed a £2 million switch to QPR from Swindon Town.

The midfielder was dubbed the David Beckham of Australia by Robins’ boss Mark Cooper after Luongo scored for his country to beat South Korea and lift the Asia Cup in January.

Now he has to lift chins at Loftus Road after signing a three-year deal at Loftus Road.

He reunites with Chris Ramsey who was pivotal in the Tottenham set-up that developed a young Luongo at White Hart Lane when both were there.

Swindon failed in Sunday’s play-off final and Rangers moved quickly to snap up an energy player who has the capacity to deal with 46 games in the Championship.

Big Down Under: Massimo Luongo becomes Most Valuable Player at Asian Cup in January

“Regular football is important to me,” he told the club’s website. That’s why QPR appealed to me. I’m at my best when I’m playing week in, week out – I’m all for playing as many games as possible in a season.

“The step up to the Championship is going to be a challenge, but I’ll always back myself.”

Rangers can expect a pick-up in replica shirt sales Down Under as Luongo admitted his profile had shot up since that Asia Cup win (see video).

He said: “I just found the Beckham comment funny.

“Maybe if the manager had compared me to someone in my exact position … but I think he meant the pin-up boy of Australia. I took it in my stride. I enjoyed being the pin-up boy for Australia for a bit. I like being the face.”

Cock-a-hoop: Ben Gladwin scores for Swindon

Swindon team-mate Ben Gladwin is expected to be the second signing, following the exit of 10 players no longer wanted by Ramsey and co.
