Neal Ardley was satisfied with his side's showing against Bristol Rovers – but feels his strikers need to be a bit braver to cash in on spells of dominance.

The Dons were easily worth a win against the Pirates but could not quite translate their dominance into goals in a match that fizzled out into a disappointing 0-0 draw.

“At times it was a lack of composure, but with 33 crosses, I've asked if we're doing enough to get on the end of them,” said the Dons' boss.

“Are we brave enough? Do we throw ourselves across centre backs enough?

“I said to the forwards they won't out-jump centre halves in this league. They'll have to be on the move, running across them and getting a knee, a head a shoulder to it.

“They are the sort of goals to turn it around.”

Ardley continued: “I know it's always about results, but I always fear a bad performance. You don't want them to not do the club justice and the fans justice, so I'm kind of pleased with the performance.

“I thought we were very good today. I'm just disappointed we never took that chance, but it's been the story of our season and we'll keep driving on.

“We tried to be as front foot as we could for much of the game. I think we had something like 24 crosses in the first half alone. I felt we were always the team most likely to win it.

“I can't fault the boys. They looked strong, they looked fit, they kept driving on and we did everything but score.

“The boys have done everything we worked on all week – they produced all the stats we've been trying to produce all week.

"The forwards have played well without putting the ball in the back of the net.”
