Michael Malcolm remains a doubt for Wealdstone’s trip to Leiston on Saturday according to boss Gordon Bartlett.

The former Tottenham striker missed Saturday’s 5-0 win over East Thurrock and Monday night’s 0-0 draw with Hendon still suffering from the effects of an eye injury, sustained in the recent victory at Wingate & Finchley.

Malcolm suffered a bleed in the eye from a whack in the face with the ball at the Harry Abrahams’ Stadium and has been under treatment at The Moorfield Hospital, in London.

Bartlett confirmed the frontman is on the mend, but remains touch and go for the trip to Suffolk, with next Tuesday’s visit to one of his old clubs, Lewes, a more realistic target.

Speaking in the wake of Monday’s action, Bartlett said: “We have nine walking wounded. Michael has been to Moorfields again today. It is certainly improving, but not enough to perform tonight. He has still got blurred vision. We have just gone around to my car for a chat and he had to follow me back because he couldn’t see.

“So he still has a few days to go with that.”

Malcolm was one of eight absentees from the draw against Gary McCann’s Greens, a number increased to nine when Scott McGleish was forced off with the effects of a virus.

Consequently, Bartlett was more than happy with a point earned the hard way and is crossing his fingers leading scorer McGleish and one of two more will be in contention for Leiston.

He added: “I’m absolutely delighted with that. If you had offered me a point this morning I’d have bitten your hand off and said ‘yes, that will do’.

“There’s a lot of walking wounded who will now get a rest for five days to recharge the batteries and go again on Saturday when, hopefully, we will have a few more personnel available.”
