David Stockdale insists Fulham have the stomach for a survival scrap.

The Whites climbed off the bottom of the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday but remain in the bottom three with five games to go.

They are five points from safety and will entertain the very team they must overhaul, 17th placed Norwich City, at Craven Cottage in a real basement battle this weekend.

Stockdale knows it remains a huge task to stay up, despite the lifeline the Villa victory has afforded them, but the Whites keeper reckons the attitude is right in the dressing room.

“There's some fight in that dressing room and we've believed all along,” Stockdale said. “When things fall into place we might win these games comfortably but for now we've just got to keep playing.

“The character is there. The players are there. The ability is there. We all know that, but we just need things to click into place for us.

“There's five more games now and we're still five points adrift so we carry on. Nothing has changed really because we've won at Villa.

“We're still five points adrift and we need to catch Norwich.”

Norwich City travel to the Cottage this Saturday, fresh from sacking their manager Chris Hughton this week.

The Canaries dismissed Hughton and replaced him with youth coach Neil Adams following a 1-0 defeat by fellow strugglers West Brom at Carrow Road.

It could be the perfect time to play City, who have lost four of their last six, and Stockdale says the Fulham players will be bouncing after their Villa heroics.

“You could see on the pitch what the atmosphere was like so you can imagine what it was like in the changing room,” the keeper said.

“It's a tough place to come. They [Villa] are a massive club with great support. I'm just really happy that we were able to build on the performance against Everton and get the three points.
