AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has started planning for next season.

The Dons boss was waiting for confirmation that there would be League Two football at Kingsmeadow again next term before beginning to make preparations.

Victory over Plymouth last week secured safety for another year, despite the Dons being docked points on Monday , and Ardley is now starting evaluate his squad.

For the last few seasons, particularly under former boss Terry Brown, Wimbledon have used the summer transfer window to clear out the deadwood and overhaul the playing staff.

Ardley’s management style involves more forward planning and the current Dons chief is likely to have had an idea of what he wants to do for some time now.

Winger Chris Arthur this week confirmed he will be among those staying on for another crack at League Two, while Conference Premier play-off hero Seb Brown will leave.

There is bound to be a few surprise exits and Ardley will use Saturday’s final game with Accrington Stanley to continue his analysis of his players.

“We’re looking at who can play roles next season and who can’t,” Ardley said. “You learn a bit about them all the time.

“Now we’re safe we’re starting to sit down and look at what we can and can’t afford, a lot of it comes down to that.

“Everyone wants £50 more than you’ve got. You look at your squad and think he’s done well but I can’t afford him because I’ve got to address this area.

"I won’t be [trying out youngsters]. I’ll pick a team to win the game [against Accrington]. I don’t want to finish 16th or 17th. I’ve told the players we will be having a hard week this week.”

Midfielder Sammy Moore and striker Jack Midson are yet to agree terms for another campaign and will hold talks with Wimbledon this summer.
