BARNET wonderkid George Sykes hopes his spell on loan at Bishop's Stortford can boost his chances of breaking into the Bees first team.

The 18-year-old striker burst onto the scene last season, with his displays attracting the attention of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Sykes was sent out on loan to Skrill South side Stortford last month to get regular football.

And the young gun hopes his time with the Hertfordshire outfit can help his Barnet cause, despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Hive.

He said: “There have been a couple of things said, but I want to push on and break into the first team.

“It is my first season as a professional so it is important to show why I should be involved with the first team as much as possible.

“It was a good experience to be involved last season, and hopefully I can push on this year.”
