Midfielder Josh McEachran believes the 2-2 draw with Southampton can do wonders for the Bees' confidence as the start of the new Championship season looms large.

Brentford held their own against Mauricio Pellegrino's Saints at Griffin Park on Saturday and former Chelsea man McEachran, who missed the last couple of the months with injury, believes such a result can breed confidence.

Speaking to the club's new iFollow channel, McEachran said: "We got the draw against a Premier League side. All in all, it was a good day for us.

"Obviously, we've still got a few things to work on, there's a couple of weeks until the first game of the season, but it's good to be back and it's good to be back playing.

"It's massive [the result against a Premier League side]. Going into the first game we have big opposition next week as well in Celta Vigo. We've got a few good friendlies coming up so we'll take the experience and look forward to the Sheffield United game.

"I've been out for about five months now so it's about getting game time, which I've been doing, and getting fit.

"I've been unfortunate with injuries, but I just want to get on the pitch and help Brentford do as well as we can."
