New Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic is hoping for a long stay in west London after a whirlwind six months with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Whites have been looking for a new boss since sacking Kit Symons in early November and ended their search by shelling out £367,000 in compensation for the Serbian.

Jokanovic had only been in Israel since the summer but made a big impact by leading the club into the Champions League group stage for the first time in 11 years.

He hopes his stint at Craven Cottage is similarly successful but considerably longer as he looks to repeat the promotion feat he achieved by leading Watford to the Premier League last season.

Jokanovic said: “I am grateful for both clubs, Maccabi and Fulham as well especially Maccabi who cared about my personal needs. I enjoyed my 6 months here in Tel Aviv. We qualified for the Champions League and we are halfway there for this season.

Hoping for a long stay: Jokanovic

“I apologize to the Maccabi supporters and I see that they are the most loyal fans, one of the most amazing I’ve seen in my football career.

“This made the games I played here at Bloomfield and on Europe great and I enjoyed the city of Tel Aviv. I want to thank all of the people here in Israel including the press and friends that I’ve made during my time.

“There’s a very important job in London coming up with Fulham and I am looking for stability and I hope to be there a very long time.”

Jokanovic’s appointment as Symons’ successor came in the wake of Maccabi’s resounding 5-0 victory over Hapoel Kiryat Shmona on Sunday night.
