Maccabi Tel Aviv manager Slavisa Jokanovic last night declined to comment on speculation claiming he is poised to take over at Fulham.

The Cottagers are reportedly be in negotiations with the Israeli club over a compensation package for the former Watford manager.

Jokanovic was in the dugout at the Bloomfield Stadium last night for what many believe will be his last game in charge.

It was disappointment for the Whites target though as closest rivals Hapoel Beersheba secured a 2-1 victory to leapfrog them and go top of the table.

The 47-year-old was asked about the Fulham reports during his post-match press conference but simply responded: “No comment.”

Jokanovic guided Watford to promotion last season but never managed the club in the Premier League after contract talks hit the rocks.

He signed a year-long deal with Tel Aviv in the summer, worth a reported £450,000, but earned significant bonus payments for qualifying for the Champions League group stage.

The Israelis finished bottom of Group G having picked up no points from their six fixtures with Chelsea, Porto and Dynamo Kiev.

Fulham, meanwhile, find themselves in 18th place in the Championship standings after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bolton at the Macron Stadium.

Chief football officer Mike Rigg has been searching for a new manager for six weeks now and has seen moves for Steve Clarke , Mark Warburton and Nigel Pearson all fail.

Axed Swansea chief Garry Monk has also been touted for the job but Jokanovic remain in pole position to succeed Kit Symons in west London.

However, no deal is expected to be signed before Boxing Day’s trip to Derby as Stuart Gray continues to fulfill the managerial duties in the interim period.
