Slavisa Jokanovic feels it was important his Fulham side showed "character and belief" in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Ryan Sessegnon put the Cottagers ahead before Jonathan Kodjia was sent off, but it was the away side who grabbed the next goal when Jack Grealish curled the ball into Marcu Bettinelli's top right hand corner.

But Fulham rallied and goals from Sone Aluko and Neeskens Kebano made sure Fulham leapfrogged Leeds into the play off places after the Yorkshire side lost 1-0 to Wolves at Elland Road.

And the manager believes his side can finish in the top six of the Championship and that his side can make "important things."

He said: “It’s important for us to show the quality, character and belief. It was a fantastic atmosphere. I believe we can make important things. I believe it too we can finish in the top six and fight for the Premier League. We need to focus and concentrate.

“We have this benefit for play many minute with one player more. It’s part of football.

“We didn’t press them enough. I put more aggressive players and don’t give them the chance to dominate us after they scored.

“I’m not thinking about who is chasing us. We need to concentrate about our work and the next game. In this competition it is not easy. At the end we are playing against top Championship tea who are still fighting directly for promotion. We will try and take control ourselves.”
