Slavisa Jokanovic is demanding Fulham to fight next season after the Whites ended their season with a comfortable 1-0 win over Bolton at Craven Cottage.

The Whites dominated their already-relegated hosts from the off, but somehow failed to open the scoring in the first half.

Tom Cairney was the man who eventually broke the deadlock, bending beyond Ben Amos after the goalkeeper’s fine save from Matt Smith.

And Jokanovic is already eyeing up next season and wants his charges to be challenging at the opposite end of the Championship table next year.

The Fulham head coach said: “We now start thinking what it is next.

“It has to be completely different because this is Fulham, a historic team, fighting for a different target than what we are fighting this year.”

The Cottagers endured an infuriating season - being one of the highest scoring teams in the league and also conceding the most outside of the relegation places.

But Jokanovic was satisfied with the clean sheet kept by Fulham in a match they never looked like losing.

He added: “It’s a good note to finish the season on.

“We made a good game, we made a clean sheet, incredible for us, and at the end it’s always important to win the games and in some way offer our supporters a little bit different today than we have in the past, especially with us in the last few months in our stadium.

“It was a little bit different today for us.

“We played without any pressure, Bolton too – it was not a typical Championship game. I was optimistic and expected we’re going to score the goal.”

And the former Watford coach added he was confident that the Whites could emulate his Hornets side last season - and win promotion.

But Jokanovic insisted that wholesale changes would be needed first.

He said: "It’s many things. We’ve finished 20th and we are talking about fighting for top six. We need many things."
