Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has apologised to the supporters who made the trip down from London, but emphasized that the decision to abandon their game was out of his hands.

Fog was present before their clash with Reading at the Madejski Stadium and the surrounding areas but the referee gave the game the go ahead.

The contest lasted the first 45, although twice the referee was seen discussing the state of play with both Fulham manager Jokanovic and Reading boss Jaap Stam, but despite both sets of players emerging for the second-half the game was abandoned.

The Serbian said: “It’s a shame for our supporters who travelled to watch the game, but in the end I can understand this decision, they said they couldn’t see the opposite side, and they decided to cancel the game.

“It’s not in my hands. I’m not the guy who can stop the game, who can make this kind of decision.”

The decision was made based on the linesman’s inability to see the full width of the pitch which impaired on their ability to adequately officiate the game leaving the referee was left with little option.

The game will now have to be rescheduled to a later date which inconveniences both sides who already have a busy Championship fixture list to contend with plus the start of their involvement in the FA Cup.

Jokanovic added: “I’m not involved in this but, like I say, I’m so sorry for our supporters. We play football for them. The linesmen explained to us that they could not do their job. So we’re going to play another day, and that’s it.”
