The loan window comes to a close next Wednesday, meaning Brentford have just eight days left to strengthen their squad ahead of the busy winter schedule.

The Bees currently have Sergi Canos (Liverpool), John Swift (Chelsea) and Marco Djuricin (Red Bull Salzburg) on loan with the club.

They can include five loanees in the matchday squad meaning, with the Austrian ruled out until January, they could add three new faces if they so desired.

Having won four from their last six, Brentford's need to supplement their squad with temporary transfers is not a prevalent as other clubs but do they need to add cover or strengthen in any position?

Here, GetWestLondon runs through the positions and whether cover is required based on the current fitness status of the playing squad.

Goalkeeper

Best in the business: David Button

The simple answer to this question is no and, fingers crossed, it will remain that way.

David Button is one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the Championship and the club have Jack Bonham in place if required.

However, were the number one to suffer an injury or suspension, Brentford could bring in a goalkeeper on a one-week emergency loan outside of the window.

They did this in 2008 after Ben Hamer was sent off against Barrow in the FA Cup with Mikkel Andersen coming in from Reading to face Bradford in a dramatic 2-1 victory with all the goals happening in the dying moments of the game.

Defence

Lee Carsley has gone for a set back four in his last six games, selecting (from right to left) Nico Yennaris, Harlee Dean, James Tarkowski and Jake Bidwell.

The Bees have cover for each position should they so need it with the likes of Alan McCormack, Jack O'Connell and Yoann Barbet all available. Maxime Colin could well be available ahead of the Christmas period.

Given the wide availability of cover, a loan in this position is not required.

Holding midfield

Form of his life: Toumani Diagouraga

Toumani Diagouraga and Alan McCormack have played in this role in recent weeks and the Bees have a back-up in Konstantin Kerschbaumer.

Diagouraga is at the peak of his powers, while McCormack has found a new lease of life under Carsley and being restored in midfield having spent most of the past two years at right back.

Josh McEachran will soon be added into the mix as he steps up his recovery from a broken foot. Again, a loan move will not be required here.

Attacking midfield

John Swift, Alan Judge and Ryan Woods have performed admirably in these positions over the past month with the Chelsea loanee earning his first England under-21 cap.

Sergi Canos is also an option for Carsley as is Lasse Vibe. Jota is also stepping up his recovery from an ankle operation and could be available by the middle of December.

Up front

Goalscorer: Marco Djuricin

Marco Djuricin's injury will create a headache for Lee Carsley. The Austrian has proven himself capable of playing the lone frontman in Brentford's 4-2-3-1 formation.

He has Philipp Hofmann as one option and played Vibe in the role at Blackburn after Djuricin went off injured.

Early indications have suggested the pair will probably be better off working as a strike duo, rather than on their own.

Andre Gray's departure left a big hole up front with his excellent work-rate causing problems for two defenders. Djuricin hasn't replicated that yet. Indeed, against QPR he was largely quiet but popped up with the winner.

So, the question is, do the club bring in a player more suited to playing up front on his own, change the tactics to play Hofmann and Vibe together or does he look to provide further support for his frontman by adding another attacking midfielder?

It was felt last season that there wasn't enough depth in attacking options towards the back end of the season with Chris Long suffering an injury meaning Gray had to do it all himself.

It is also worth remembering that Hofmann and Vibe will be experiencing Christmas football for the first time and the latter had also joined the club mid-season.

An extra body up front would provide them support going into the long hard slog that won't end until the week before Easter before reinforcements can potentially bolster the squad in January.
