QPR face a tricky test as they travel north to take on Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

The Hoops will no doubt be buoyed after a near-perfect first week to the season, meaning confidence will be high ahead of the clash with the promotion contenders.

A 2-0 victory with Reading in the Championship was followed up by a 1-0 win against Northampton Town in the cup, meaning that the club’s Achilles heel last season, the defence, has looked sturdy so far.

That is bound to be tested today, as the Hoops face an attacking outfit with the likes of Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes, meaning the defence will have to be on the top of their game once again to keep out the undoubted threat posed by the Owls.

As usual, we’ll be providing live updates from the clash at Hillsborough, meaning you cans it back and relax while we bring the action to you.

Stoppage time

Into four minutes of added time here. Both sides still battling away as they try to get one final opportunity to take the lead.

Can QPR find a way through?

Yesterday’s signing Kazenga Lua Lua and Ryan Manning are replacing Jamie Mackie and Luke Freeman

Slowing down

The game has dropped in tempo somewhat in the last 10 minutes.

Perhaps this could be time to introduce Kazenga Lua Lua to liven things up?

QPR have got away with one here...

Sheffield Wednesday have every right to be aggrieved as a penalty shout is waived away.

A header across goal hits the hand of Jake Bidwell but the referee didn’t see it...

A stroke of luck.

Both sides looking up for this

QPR and Sheffield Wednesday both look like they want to make something happen.

The Owls enjoyed a spell of dominance, but the Hoops have done will to try and harvest some attacking play on the counter

WHAT.A.MISS.

Sheffield Wednesday are on the up.

Barry Bannan jinked past a number of QPR defenders on the left before lay the ball on a plate for Jordan Rhodes who missed the target from point blank range.

You’d have put your house on a strike like Rhodes scoring from there.

Change in emphasis

QPR are working hard to make sure the tide doesn’t turn.

They’re trying to keep hold of the ball and utilise Pawel Wszolek on the right hand side as an outlet.

The home crowd are up for this one now...

GOAL! Sheffield Wednesday 1 QPR 1 (Sam Winnall)

Sheffield Wednesday 1 QPR 1

A moment to forget for Nedum Onuoha. A whipped ball from Adam Reach on the left skipped over the foot of the Hoops captain and found it’s way to substitute Sam Winnall who slammed the ball past Alex Smithies. Game on.

A frantic start to the second half

The second 45 has got off to a heck of a start. Jamie Mackie went surging into the box and hit an effort wide, before a long goal-kick found it’s way to Jordan Rhodes in the QPR box, who was denied by an excellent save by Alex Smithies.

Game is back underway

The referee starts the second half. QPR lead 1-0 here with 45 minutes to go!

Half time assessment

QPR have carried out their game-plan flawlessly.

They’re doing an excellent job of keeping the defence tight, and using the midfield trio of Scowen, Luongo and Freeman to quickly turn defence into attack.

Mackie and Washington have both worked their socks off up front, giving Freeman and Luongo plenty of options to play the ball in behind an Owls defence which is struggling to cope with the direct running of the QPR attack.

The Hoops have also done very well at keeping hold of possession when they get it, and this is something they’ll need to continue in the second half.

An excellent first half, but who was the standout performer?

Half time: Sheffield Wednesday 0 QPR 1

Sheffield Wednesday 0 QPR 1

Half time at Hillsborough at QPR lead Sheffield Wednesday through a Jamie Mackie strike.

Penalty appeal

Sheffield Wednesday feeling aggrieved.

A corner came in which Jordan Rhodes headed across the face of goal from the back post, and Jake Bidwell appeared to push Gary Hooper, stopping him from prodding the ball in.

It looked like the right call from up here.

QPR's midfield

The trio of Josh Scowen, Massimo Luongo and Luke Freeman look like they’ve been playing together for years.

They seem to have worked out the ideal formula to keep the middle of the park compact, while also allowing themselves to get forward as the Hoops look to hit Sheffield Wednesday on the counter.

Scowen has been instrumental in breaking up play, and he’s clearly been instructed to pass the ball onto Freeman and Luongo who look more than happy to pick up the ball, turn and run at the home defence.

With the runs of the two front men QPR look dangerous every time they get the ball.

A second enforced change for the Owls.

Glen Loovens replaced by Sam Winnall in a second enforced change for the home side.

The home fans starting to get frustrated.

A few of the Sheffield Wednesday fans around us are starting to get riled.

QPR are doing extremely well at holding onto the ball and retaining control of the game; much to the frustration of the home side.

GOAL! (Jamie Mackie)

Sheffield Wednesday 0 QPR 1

A great goal. Luke Freeman threaded an excellent ball into the path of Jamie Mackie on the left side of the area who coolly slid the ball under Kieren Westwood.

A top finish

Chance!

Sheffield Wednesday go close again as a cross from the right finds Jordan Rhodes in the box who has his header well saved by Alex Smithies.

Calm possession play

QPR keeping the ball well with the midfielder three looking to bring Bidwell and Wszolek into play. Looking calm under pressure and keen to play their way into a goalscoring position.

Substitution for the home side.

Sam Hutchinson is replaced by David Jones early on after suffering an injury.

Home pressure

Sheffield Wednesday enjoying time on the ball as they break down the right. Josh Scowen challenges to give the Owls a corner which results in a header from Daniel Pudil going just over the bar.

Pawel Wszolek

QPR looking to bring the winger into play here as he tries to swing the ball into the box. His cross is cleared with ease.

Stoppage

We have a slight break in play as Sam Hutchinson receives treatment.

Ian Holloway and Curtis Fleming taking the opportunity to pass instruction onto their team.

Settled into the rhythm

Both sides have had early spells of pressure with the game now settling into a pattern.

Luke Freeman takes it short but the ball is cleared for a throw-in.
