The back of Sheffield Wednesday hasn't come soon enough for Fulham.

Three games - three defeats this season, and now no need to worry what ball the Whites are in Monday's fourth-round draw.

They saw plenty of the match ball at Hillsborough, but not for the first time the rub of the green eluded them.

Goal! Moussa Dembele scores

They were the ones pressing when Atdhe Nuhiu scored a winner deep into the second half. But at least Slavisa Jokanovic had a chance to run his rule over Luke Garbutt and Shaun Hutchinson starved of chances under the new manager.

The former was replaced in the second half by Tim Ream with 20 minutes to go. Recalled striker Cauley Woodrow left the action a lot earlier.

It was an eventful five minutes for the England U21 player.

Ouch!: Cauley Woodrow of Fulham gets treatment before going off

He was booked for a flailing elbow and almost straight away pulled up lame with a foot injury to be replaced by Moussa Dembele who was to have a big say in first-half events.

Fulham were calling the shots, and wouldn't you know it? Lightning in the form of Barry Bannan does strike twice.

Last week at the Cottage, it was Ross Wallace who hit a screamer. This time it was the Wednesday midfielder who beat Andy Lonergan all hands down.

Two together: Whites fans arrive at Sheffield Wednesday

The lead lasted all of a minute before the man in the news levelled.

Dembele picked his spot from eight yards and it was 1-1. He nearly gave Whites the lead straight after the break, but his header from two yards produced a brilliant reaction save from Joe Wildsmith.

Alex Kačaniklić was next to try his luck after Tom Cairney's great cross found the winger - but he was unable to find the net.

Just when a fourth round berth beckoned, the home side wrecked it.

Atdhe Nuhiu, with a right footed shot from outside the box, put the Owls ahead for the second and decisive time, with this time neither Dembele or anyone else in away yellow able to find a reply.
