Sean Rigg admits he is rooting for boyhood club Bristol Rovers to get promotion – provided it is not at the expense of present employees AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons make the journey to The Memorial Ground tonight knowing a win will see them leapfrog Rovers in the League Two play-off scrap.

And while the 27-year-old winger openly admits to having a soft spot for the club who gave him his start in the game, with vital points at stake there will be no room for divided loyalties come kick-off time.

“You always root for your old clubs and that is where I started, so I am always keeping an eye out for them to see how they are doing.

“They are a good club who have just had some new owners come in, so they are going to start pumping a bit of money in which is great for them.

“If we both went up that would be ideal. I’d like all my previous clubs to go up to be honest.

“I’d like to finish above them though. All that matters at the end of the day is us. I’m not there anymore, so I wish them all the best and that they get up there, but I want to be promoted with Wimbledon .”

Rigg is glad returning to the place he cut his teeth in the sport won't be an altogether novel experience, admitting the first visit with Port Vale in 2011 had been particularly weird – not least because he scored a belter in a 3-0 win, something he will be trying to repeat tonight.

“That first time I went back it was very abnormal,” he added.

“I got a good reception and actually scored against them, but I didn’t celebrate and they gave me a clap for that.

“So it is weird, but I want to do my best and try and get a goal.”
