Fulham skipper Scott Parker is indebted to Charlton for launching his career – but says sentiment will go out of the window tonight.

The midfielder came through the ranks at the Valley and went on to make 145 appearances for the Addicks before Chelsea came calling a decade ago.

Charlton have made a solid start to the season under new boss Bob Peeters but Parker is looking to get one over on his former employers.

Back where it began: Parker in action for Charlton earlier in his career

He said: “It was my first club. I was there from eight years of age, got my chance and probably wouldn’t be where I am today without having that opportunity. It was a fantastic club for me and I loved every minute of it.

“It gave me a stepping stone to go on and do what I’ve done in my career. I’m looking forward to playing against them.

“I left at 22 and went to Chelsea. It was a massive part in my career. When you get given a chance to perform and make a name for yourself, the team that gives you that are the one you look back on with gratitude. I love everything about that club.”

Familiar face: Parker will line up against the Addicks this evening

Parker sees similarities between Fulham and the Addicks and insists he’s happy to see his old club’s revival after a turbulent few years.

But the 34-year-old knows bragging rights are at stake in tonight’s televised London derby.

He added: “They remind me of Fulham. They are a very close-knit, family-orientated club. They’ve had a bad time over the last few years but things are looking up and I’m very pleased for them.

“It’s a big game for us. They are going really well and it will be another tough one. Hopefully we can beat them.”
