Former Millwall and Brentford defender Scott Barron has called time on his career after struggling to overcome a persistent hip problem.

The 28-year-old was released by the Bees at the end of the season following an injury-ravaged spell at Griffin Park where was restricted to just seven league starts.

Barron struggled with the problem since the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Southend in December 2012 and had surgery the following March in a bid to fix it.

The Ipswich Town youth-team graduate battled back to fitness and featured a further five times at the start of last campaign, only to break down again.

And Barron has now been forced to hang up his boots just a month before his 29th birthday.
