Luiz Felipe Scolari  is dead-set on revenge for Chelsea's lost home record, and the only way he can see to achieve that is to beat Liverpool at Anfield.

Chelsea's new manager felt the need to apologise to the club's fans last weekend, after the Blues' incredible 86 match unbeaten home record was torn apart by the visiting Reds.

Scolari refused to concede Liverpool are now championship favourites, but the Brazilian accepted the score will need to be settled.

"We lost three points," he said. "But we have a chance to pull that back when we play the game at Liverpool.

"Maybe Liverpool will lose some points (in the meanwhile). And if we win at Liverpool, then we are level."

Scolari will have a long wait for revenge as Chelsea's game at Anfield is not due to take place until the end of January.

Meanwhile, this Saturday's game against Sunderland will be the first time in four years and eight months that a Chelsea manager has have to pick his team up from the very worst result in football: a home defeat.

Scolari's team will still be below full-strength when they take on Roy Keane's Black Cats.

Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack are not likely to return before Tuesday's trip to AS Roma in the Champion's League.
