Brentford have been handed a big boost after Sam Saunders returned to light training following a long injury lay-off.

The Bees midfielder has been dogged by the knee problem since January which has restricted him to just two appearances since the turn of the year.

Saunders recently visited a specialist to try and resolve the issue after breaking down during pre-season training, and the 31-year-old has taken the first tentative steps on the road to recovery.

Boss Mark Warburton said: "Sam is in the second week of a four-week program to get him back to full fitness.

"He's running now and working with the physio. It's great for Sam because it's been frustrating for him."
