Brentford star Sam Saunders has been to see a specialist in a bid to fix his on-going knee problem.

The Bees midfielder hasn't featured since the beginning of January and went under the knife a month later to try and resolve the issue.

Saunders returned to full training towards the end of the campaign, but suffered a setback during pre-season.

Boss Mark Warburton said: "Sam Saunders will hopefully find out the cause of the inflammation soon. It's been a frustrating time for him.

"He's seen the best people in the county. Something is causing it and we're trying to find out exactly what it is.

"It's been a niggling injury that's dragged on for seven or eight months now. He's had various injections but it's swelling up after certain aspects of training.

"We need to find the root cause of that then deal with it."
