Chelsea would regret giving Jose Mourinho the chop, according to former Blues full-back Wayne Bridge.

Mourinho is losing his grip on the Stamford Bridge job after a terrible start to the defence of their Premier League title.

Defeat to Leicester City on Monday night made it NINE league defeats already this season for the Special One in the opening 16 matches of the campaign.

Chelsea are hovering down in 16th spot, just a point above the drop zone and a massive 20 behind Claudio Ranieri’s surprise leaders, report Mirror Online.

Mourinho accused his troops of betraying him following Monday night's 2-1 defeat at the King Power Stadium.

But Bridge, who played under the Portuguese during his time at Stamford Bridge, believes he's still the right man to change their fortunes.

Speaking on behalf of 888poker.com, he said: "Mourinho is one of the best managers around. They will regret it if they get rid of him. He's got to be given until the end of the season.

"Wherever he's been he's won things, and if he leaves Chelsea he will go and win trophies elsewhere too. I think clubs will be queuing up for him."

Diego Costa appeared to accuse his teammates of falling asleep during the Blues' loss to Leicester.

The misfiring striker has managed just three Premier League goals all season, and has recently fallen out of favour with Mourinho.

Chelsea face a crucial clash against fellow strugglers Sunderland on Saturday.

Mourinho has written off their top-four hopes, although they could still qualify for the Champions League again by winning the competition.

Bridge added: "Chelsea can turn the corner if they start putting some wins together, but when is it going to happen?"
