Roman Abramovich is a notoriously hard man to please but Jose Mourinho reckons table-topping Chelsea have put a smile on the owner’s face this season.

The Blues are the biggest box-office draw in the Premier League this season and have scored and conceded more times after five matches than any previous Mourinho team.

It is just the kind of attacking, exciting, football that the Russian billionaire has been craving and he has been particularly impressed with new signing Diego Costa, who is the new focal point of the forward-line.

Abramovich has been spotted celebrating wildly in the stands in recent weeks and Blues boss Mourinho is happy to see his employer enjoying the club’s success.

“I work for him but my feeling is yes [he is happy],” Mourinho said.

“My feeling is that, as every Chelsea fan, and he’s not just a fan he’s the owner, the fans are happy. The team is playing well. We are getting good results.

“The draw against Schalke is not a good result but it is not a dramatic result. The way the team plays, everything we’re showing on the pitch at the time and also the philosophy is working.

“When I watch television and I watch him hugging his young kids after watching a Chelsea goal it is easy to see his enjoyment.”

Chelsea take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday and Mourinho will be hoping to give his boss more to shout about this weekend.
