Everton boss Roberto Martinez has backed Chris Long to be a hit at Brentford.

The Toffees youngster has hooked up with the Bees on loan and could make his debut in Saturday's Championship clash at Norwich City.

Long spent pre-season with the Everton first-team and Martinez hopes the 19-year-old striker can get on the goal trail in west London.

He said: “It’s an important period and Chris is ready for that role. I always felt that when Chris joined the first team in pre-season he had something special.

“He has that knack of making the right room and making the right decision and he can score goals out of nothing. That’s a strong quality. I think Chris will be able to show what he can do.”

Long is the latest recruit to pitch up in TW8 from Goodison Park, following in the footsteps of Jake Bidwell, Adam Forshaw and Conor McAleny.

And Martinez has piled praise on the Bees for the way they look after his starlets.

He added: “Brentford is a team who do things right and are very well structured. They are having a good season and both player and club can benefit from that loan period.

“He has been out on loan in League One and is ready for the Championship. We all know Brentford is an environment where they look after young players and they really care about the small details and that is exactly what we are looking for in this relationship.”
