Rob Green will leave QPR over Chris Ramsey’s ‘dead…’ – and that’s where the Rs head coach skidded to a halt as he said it.

Ramsey joked he’d better not complete the sentence for fear someone would ask whose prone figure was out on the training pitch?

“Oh, look is that the coach?” Ramsey quipped, but he was deadly serious when suggesting it would need a monumental deal for both Rs and the 35-year-old shot stopper to prise him away.

Breathtaking save: Green parries

But the hunt for Alex McCarthy's replacement continues, with Southend's Dan Bentley favourite to fill the void.

"Nothing’s landed on my desk, nothing concrete," Ramsey explained when asked about formal bids for Green.

Target: Daniel Bentley

"It’s obvious people will talk about Rob. If you look at last year he was world class. To have someone at his age to have the career he’s had and still get picked for England, shows how good he is.

"Rob’s not going anywhere. I wouldn’t want to lose Rob. He’s fought the battle with Alex and maintained the position here, which shows how much we think of him.

“I’m sure we’ll bring in someone to take his place long-term. But if he keeps playing the way he is, he’ll win that battle as well.”
