Richard Dunne insists he has nothing to prove when he takes on Aston Villa tonight.

The experienced defender faces his former employers for the first time as the R's look to kick-start their season.

Dunne spent four years at Villa Park but was given the boot in 2013 after an injury-ravaged 12 months before Harry Redknapp handed the centre-back a Loftus Road lifeline.

Unwanted record: Dunne scored the 10th own goal of his career against Liverpool

The Irishman insists he bears no grudges over his exit but says sentiment will go out the window when he crosses the white line.

“I’m too old to be trying to prove people wrong,” he said.

“Every time you play you want to prove your manager right for picking you because we’ve got five centre-backs at the club keeping eachother on our toes.

“I enjoyed my time at Villa. We had a great season the first year, then the chairman decided to go a different way and the club’s been in transition ever since.

“It’s a great club and hopefully they are on the right track, but the situation we’re in we need the points.”
